RELEASED: Dec. 31, 2010

RALEIGH, NC - The law firm of Roberts Law Group recently defended a woman accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14 year old. Although the woman was facing six counts of statutory rape and sex offenses, Raleigh criminal defense attorney Patrick Roberts secured probation instead of a lengthy 20 to 30 year prison sentence.

By quickly negotiating a plea agreement, Mr. Roberts' client spent only three months in custody while her case was pending. Although she received a sentence of five years probation and must register for the sex offender registry, Mr. Roberts' client is, however, able to move out of state and continue to spend time with her children. The resolution of the Wake County case suited all of the parties involved, including the family of the 14 year old boy.

"The goal in many of these cases is to find a common ground where the parties can agree. The families in this case didn't want to punish my client so much as they were concerned there was no additional contact between the client and the 14 year old," Mr. Roberts said. "They were present and agreed to the terms. It's a sad predicament but everyone goes away with a mutual resolution."

The Raleigh law firm of Roberts Law Group is a criminal defense firm that handles sex crimes defense work. With substantial experience and working knowledge of criminal defense laws, the criminal attorneys aggressively fight for the rights of accused clients throughout North Carolina.
