A 23-year-old man from Raleigh, North Carolina, has been arrested on sex crime charges. The man is facing a single count of first-degree sex offense with a child and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

According to the arrest warrant, the alleged offenses happened between April 1, 2010 and Aug. 1, 2014. Police said that the man has known the child since before the dates provided in the arrest warrant. The alleged victim’s age has not been disclosed. The arrest warrant also does not say what events police believe happened.

The man would have been 17 years old at the first date provided in the arrest warrant. In order for someone to be charged with that specific sex offense, he or she must be 18 years old. Later in 2010, the man turned 18. For the crime of taking indecent liberties with a child, the person only has to be 16 years old to be charged.

The judge set the man’s bond at $750,000. As of the time of the report, he was still being held.

Sex crime charges — especially those involving children — can significantly impact a person’s life. While everything must be done to keep children safe, it is important to remember that children can often make up stories or embellish them based upon what they feel or what they have been told. For example, a parent may encourage his or her child not to meet with the child’s other parent. The more you mention it, the more your child likely wants to go.

Those facing a sex crimes offense, though, will want to fight the charges as hard as possible. An experienced attorney can help and can challenge the evidence the prosecution is presenting in your case.
