House Candidate Charged with DUI Twice Over the Weekend

It was not a good weekend for Randy Wolfe. The Winston-Salem Journal reports that Wolfe, a candidate for the North Carolina House, was charged with driving while intoxicated twice this weekend.

Wolfe is a retired CBS News producer from Mount Airy, running for the NC House 90^th District seat in Surry County. He was pulled over by Mount Airy police on Saturday around 10 p.m. after he was observed going 10 miles below the speed limit and crossing the center line. Wolfe failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol content reading of 0.14. He was charged with driving while impaired and given a traffic citation. He was released without bond.

However, Wolfe was stopped by police again on Sunday at about 8 p.m. after he was excessively honking his horn while sitting in traffic on Main Street. He failed a field sobriety test and had blood alcohol content was 0.20 this time, which is more than twice the legal limit in North Carolina. Wolfe was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, two counts of driving with a revoked license and resisting a public officer. He was later released from the Surry County jail on a $10,000 bond.

Wolfe apologized to his supporters this morning, saying he made a mistake this weekend. Although it is too late in the game for Wolfe to remove himself from the race, he has taken down his campaign website. Wolfe “thought it best” to take down the website this morning.

Wolfe, a Democrat, is running against Republican incumbent Sarah Stevens in the House race.
