"The Initiative" Rounds Up Drugs and Guns in North Carolina Bust

An early morning raid by federal, state and local law enforcement officials in Charlotte, North Carolina netted 20 criminal suspects. Four months of investigative work led up to the joint effort - titled "The Initiative" - and arrests were for such crimes as drug trafficking, robbery, prostitution, and gun charges.

North Carolina DA May Be Removed From office

In Durham County, a district attorney's competence is being questioned after repeated run-ins with a North Carolina Superior Court judge. A hearing is underway this week to decide whether the DA should be removed from her position. This is only the second time in the history of North Carolina that proceedings are being held to remove an elected official from office.

A 38-year-old man with a history of sex offense violations was sentenced last week to 10 years in federal prison. The federal charges against the man stem from distribution of child pornography. His sentence included 20 years of supervised probation and a no-contact order with any of the victims.

Man Pleads Guilty to $32.5M North Carolina Ponzi Scheme

A former resident of North Carolina pled guilty last week to federal charges in connection with a $32.5 million Ponzi scheme. The federal money laundering charges were brought against the 60-year-old man for his role in inducing investments with false statements and fraudulent misrepresentations through the business Queen Shoals Consultants.

Fraud Charges Brought Against North Carolina Developer

A North Carolina developer is facing criminal charges once again. This time, the developer has been charged with 72 counts of obtaining money by false pretenses. The man was charged last year with insurance fraud and obtaining money by false pretenses.

Free North Carolina App Allows User to Find Location of Sex Offenders

North Carolina residents will soon have the ability to track the location of a registered sex offender on their iPhone, thanks to a new app that is being unveiled by the state's attorney general. The tracking application searches within one, three and five miles of your current location.

House Calls Made to the Homes of North Carolina Registered Sex Offenders

More than 200 registered sex offenders received house calls from sheriff's deputies last week. The goal was to "knock-and-talk" to offender to check on probation and sentence compliance.
