A 30-year-old North Carolina man was arrested one day after he was released from prison. Goldsboro Police Department spokesperson reported that the man allegedly sexually assaulted a 21-year-old acquaintance the evening after the man left the prison. The man has been charged with second degree rape in connection with the crime.

The Goldsboro man has previously been convicted of habitual felon, attempted abduction of children and breaking and entering into vehicles. The man has already been convicted of a sex crime, which mandated his name on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry.

The second degree rape charge could lead to a significant prison sentence given his past criminal record. The alleged victim claims that the man raped her while she was asleep on the 1000 block of N. Center Street in Goldsboro. The woman reported the crime on February 11. Prison records show that the man was released for his previous criminal convictions on February 10.

The man was scheduled for his first court appearance Tuesday. The judge set his bond at $200,000. It is unclear if the man is represented by a criminal defense attorney at this time.
