Recently, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals held that it was unconstitutional to ban registered sex offenders from using social media. The law that the court considered was an Indiana state law not unlike North Carolina's own prohibition against the use of sites like Facebook or Twitter by convicted sex offenders.

Federal Embezzlement And Fraud Charges For Two Former NC City Employees

The city of Cherryville is missing about $500,000 from its budget, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Charlotte. Two of its former employees - Bonny Alexander and Jennifer Hoyle - are facing federal embezzlement charges for misuse of $435,000 and $92,000 in public funds.

34 Cary-Area Break-Ins May Have Been Solved With Recent Arrests

Two men have been arrested and charged with various forms of breaking and entering, including two counts a piece for intent to commit felony larceny after a police pursuit ended in a two-car collision. Twenty-seven-year-old Brian Johnson and 23-year-old Nicolas Losito stand accused of working together to rob 34 businesses in Cary, Apex and Morrisville.

No Deal Yet For WakeMed On Medicare Fraud Charges

U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle declined to approve a proposed deferred prosecution agreement between federal prosecutors and WakeMed administration related to criminal charges of overbilling Medicare for services not actually rendered. No individuals were charged in the federal criminal investigation; only the corporation was facing felony prosecution.

Security Camera Catches Raleigh Burglars Red-Handed

At least two men involved in a Raleigh break-in captured on video by a home security system and later posted to YouTube have been arrested and charged with burglary. The online video of the break-in has received close to 2 million views.

Are Ongoing Background Checks On Horizon For Johnston County Employees?

In January, the Johnston County School Board will consider whether employees will be subjected to ongoing criminal history checks after being hired by the school district. Currently, applicants are screened for criminal offenses prior to being offered a job, but the new proposal would require employees' actions be continuously monitored.
