Late Night Encounter Ends In Rape, Kidnapping Charges

A Charlotte man is accused of raping a woman late Sunday night in the courtyard area of an apartment complex. Police reported that several witnesses heard the woman's cries and attempted to stop the alleged sexual assault; when others got involved in the altercation, the 21-year-old suspect fled on foot.

Does A Statutory Rape Charge Mean Prison Time?

The first thing that we need to get straight here is that a charge alone of statutory rape or other sex offense will not land you in prison. In 2006, Johnny Williams was sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of sex offenses involving a minor, including lewd conduct and attempted rape. Williams was released from prison and paroled in January, 2013. Just days ago, his sex offense convictions were set aside and the case against him dismissed.

NC Marine Recruiter Accused Of Sex Crimes

Last year, approximately 12 instructors at an airbase in San Antonio were accused of sexually assaulting recruits in Texas. This year, a local Marine recruiter in the Charlotte suburbs is accused of similar criminal activity. Sergeant Derek Percival has been charged with second degree rape, sexual battery, communicating threats and involuntary servitude related to the accusations of two female recruits.
